　　密苏里大学于1839年在哥伦比亚城建立，是当时密西西比河西岸唯一的大学，现在已发展成为密苏里大学体系，包括四个分校，分别是哥伦比亚校区（Columbia）、罗拉分校（Rolla）、堪萨斯分校（Kansas City）和圣路易斯分校（St. Louis）。四个校区共有学生6.3万名。密苏里大学是该州34所大学中唯一入选美国大学联盟AAU（Association of American Universities）的大学，素有“公立长春藤名校”的美誉。大学可以提供265种以上的学位课程，在教学与研究方面声名卓著

　　密苏里大学为学生提供了一系列独特的居住条件，有25栋宿舍楼，分为两种类型。第一种为普通型宿舍，大部分是双人间，有些有独立卫生间有些则没有。第二种为公寓式宿舍，有2-4个卧室、独立的卫生间、厨房、客厅、餐厅等。

　　密苏里大学位于密苏里州哥伦比亚城。哥伦比亚是密苏里州第四大城市，毗邻圣路易斯和堪萨斯城。

　　该校属于美国大学协会。密苏里州位于美国最长的密西西比河中游河畔，美国大陆本土的中央，几乎处于美国的几何中心，在地理位置上具有重要的战略意义。这一片地区当年是法国的殖民地，城市由法国国王得名。美国的经济发展是由东部大西洋岸向西部广大荒凉地区推进的，欧洲殖民者以及后来的人流货流也不断地从这里涌向西部地区，美国地理学家通常称这里为向西进发的门户。

　　密苏里有53座州立公园、森林以及休闲地区，其中包括了占地五十八万两千六百二十公顷的马克吐温国家森林。密苏里州的河将无价的艺术作品雕入了密苏里州的风景内，而它同时也将数以百计的探险家及数以千计的垦荒者带来这块土地上，开垦田地，建立城市。密苏里州拥有非常丰富的自然美景，南部的山区森林密布，还有许多天然的洞穴。分布在该州北边的则是平原及草原。

　　气候全年气候温和，夏天不至于过于炎热，冬天会下雪，夏天平均温度为摄氏 25 度左右，冬天平均温度为摄氏-0.6度左右。

　　圣路易斯是全国最大的内河航运中心，也是全国第二大铁路运输的终点站，第五大航空交通枢纽和第六大卡车运输中心。市境内的港口岸线长达116公里，在密西西比河两岸有近百个现代化码头。全国有14条铁路线汇集在圣路易斯，通过该城的铁路占全国总里程的73%，许多重要的工业产品和原料燃料等通过这个枢纽与全国东西南北各站转接，市区设有17个调车8个货物装卸场地。由于圣路易斯的地理位置适中，喷气式飞机约在3个小时内便可以抵达美国大陆的大多数主要城市区域。该城与全国55个城市都有直达班机，国际机场上每天起飞的班机有250多架次。

　　周边企业

　　圣路易斯的电子仪表工业和电子技术水平相当发达，埃默森电器公司是世界上第一流的电子企业。美国最大的飞机制造公司麦克唐纳--道格拉斯总部就设在这里，世界上首先登上月球的宇宙飞船是在这里制造的，之后还制造了多艘宇宙飞船。圣路易斯的食品工业和制鞋工业也很发达，食品工业中以生产饼干和啤酒闻名全国。酿酒业垄断着全国。这里有30多家制鞋厂，为美国仅次于波士顿的第二大制鞋中心。

　　密苏里大学警察部门有50名全职员工，包括35名尽职的警官，有逮捕的权利。另外，30名校园保安补充了校园中的治安服务。警察部门保证了校园的平静，建造了一个和谐的学习环境。
