　　华盛顿大学是美国西海岸的第一所公立大学

　　校园占地近一平方英里，东西两端巍峨的山端清晰可见，校园内坐落着成群的哥特式建筑，特定季节你还会见到盛开的樱花，UW-Seattle这公园一般的校园足以让每一个访客都叹为观止。这所历史悠久的大学自1974年至今，是受美国联邦研究资金注资最多的公立大学，把私立学校也算上的话也仅次于约翰霍普金斯大学。

　　华盛顿大学创建于 1861 年，是一所公立综合大学。大学下设建筑与城市规划学院、文理学院、工程学院、森林资源学院、商业管理学院及牙医系、医学系、护理系、公共健康与社区医疗系和社会工作系。学校占地 703 英亩，坐落在西雅图的一个居民区内。

　　Residence Halls中，Hansee最好，Apartment推荐Stevens Court M。Lander是给新生住的，虽然吵了点，不过能认识不少朋友。如果你室友都是中国人的话，Lander也许会很适合，而且还便宜。

　　SC M（Stevens Court M住宿区）不用在学校吃，RH的话都必须用学校的dining plan。华盛顿大学的Dining Levels包括从2200美元-5800美元左右的6个等级，考虑区位等因素，价格还是比较合理的。不过华盛顿特区里有许多地道的中国餐馆，因此不少中国留学生选择去附近的中国餐馆吃饭，比在学校吃更划算。

　　华盛顿大学位于华盛顿地区。华盛顿面积177平方公里，人口约为540万。

　　文化生活

　　该校属于太平洋十二校联盟。世界大多数致命博物馆都坐落于华盛顿市区。目前史密森尼博物馆属下的博物馆包括阿瑟・M．萨克勒美术馆，赫什霍恩博物馆和雕塑园，国家航空和航天博物馆，国立美国历史博物馆，国立美国原住民博物馆，国立自然历史博物馆，国立肖像馆，国立美国邮政博物馆，美国艺术博物馆，史密森国立动物公园等。国立动物园是美国少数几个城市有大熊猫的展览。史密森尼博物馆还有一些展览和研究机构设在马里兰州和弗吉尼亚州等地。其中的弗里尔美术馆和萨克勒美术馆（Freer and Sackler Galleries）以收藏亚洲艺术品为主，里面也一个中国馆。美国国家画廊附属于史密森尼博物馆，但是独立运作。国会图书馆和国家档案馆也是重要的博物馆类型机构。国家档案馆藏有美国独立宣言和美国宪法原件。很多在特区的博物馆都是免费对外开放。其中的航天博物馆最受欢迎。

　　华盛顿有众多的人文景观，例如美国华盛顿国家广场有美国国会大厦、白宫、华盛顿纪念碑、杰斐逊纪念堂、林肯纪念堂、富兰克林・罗斯福纪念碑、国家第二次世界大战纪念碑、朝鲜战争老兵纪念碑、越南战争老兵纪念碑、哥伦比亚特区第一次世界大战纪念碑和爱因斯坦纪念碑。和特区内的博物馆一样，大多免费开放。华盛顿纪念碑可乘电梯到顶，观赏特区的景色。其他人文景观还包括唐人街（中国城）、老邮局大楼、美国大屠杀纪念博物馆、华盛顿国家大教堂等。唐人街和世界其他的地方一样，也有一座中国牌坊，号称第一大。那里还有一个普通公寓改成的观音庙。那里也有中国餐馆、华人商店等。大屠杀纪念博物馆是犹太人合资兴建的，在美国很多犹太人建造的大屠杀纪念馆都是免费对外开放。

　　气候

　　华盛顿夏热冬寒，四季分明。8月份平均气温约30摄氏度，湿度大，常见雷雨。春秋两季温和，平均气温约20摄氏度。春天相对干燥。夏秋之交会受到飓风影响。冬季气温会降到冰点以下，年平均降雪量381毫米。

　　交通

　　乘坐公共交通工具很容易游览华盛顿特区。由于华盛顿特区的交通经常出现交通挤塞，基本可以说是昂贵的停车场，所以乘坐公共交通工具可以方便快捷地出行。体育，娱乐，购物中心，博物馆和旅游景点都是可通过公共交通到达的。乘坐地铁，火车或公共汽车上班下班都可以减少交通方面的压力。机场/接机信息: 北京有直飞西雅图的航班。除了出租车以外还有两种公共交通方式：①Light Rail & Bus 在停车楼二楼乘坐light rail到终点站westlake，然后转71/72/73路公交车就可以直接到学校，在 University Way and 41st St.下车。②shuttle express 位于停车楼一层，属于shared van性质的服务，比出租车便宜，服务很好，速度比公交车要快很多。费用一般在37$左右，准备3-5$的小费给司机。

　　周边企业

　　在华盛顿这一经济大区设立总部的著名公司有房利美、相思人寿保险公司、红斑马广播万豪酒店及度假酒店、惠灵顿珠宝、林肯集团。这些著名企业一定会给华盛顿大学的毕业生带来可观的就业机会。

　　安全

　　华盛顿大学在提升校园环境安全方面做了大量工作。宿舍门的背后都有逃生图，一定要记在心里；学校提供包括24小时校内巡逻、夜间护送、24小时紧急电话、宿舍监控、道路照明、学生巡逻在内的安全服务。周围治安良好。每年都会公布一份关于校园安全的报告，每一起报警都会被详细的记录，以便学校改进安保工作。同时，夜间到校外的话，尽量结伴而行，确保安全。该校所在位置属于大型城市，该区域的毒品/枪支犯罪率(每千人)为1.43。

Documents should be generated by the institution (e.g., a scan of an official document or a PDF created from a student portal). Anything appearing self-generated is not considered a valid document. Applicants who are admitted to the program will be required to submit official transcripts prior to matriculation. Personal Statement: Overall, give an impression of purpose and self-awareness. Be specific about the intellectual experiences that led you to your proposed areas of study; include courses you have taken, research you have done, books read, methodologies discovered, etc. Note any speacial relevant skills that your possess. Link these to some reasonably specific statement of your research or teaching interests and ultimate career goals.
