　　学校简介

　　南卫理公会大学位于美国德克萨斯州达拉斯，占地175英亩。学校建立于1911年，是一所私立的教会学校。南卫理公会大学是卡耐基基金会指定的一类研究性大学之一；被《US News and World Report》选为二级国家级大学；全美最佳大学排名(America‘s Best Colleges Nationally )第66位，其法学院排名全美43，为美国知名法律教学学府。联合为理公会在1911年建立了SMU。学校保证并承诺教学无宗派倾向，学术自由和开放研究。自SMU成立就受到达拉斯市的支持，当地居民抵押了$300,000以确保大学的地理位置。为了感谢市政，SMU把第一栋建筑命名为达拉斯厅，至今仍是这所大学的标志和中心建筑。该建筑设计模仿了弗吉尼亚大学的圆形大厅，于1915年建成并开放。当时把整座大学全部设置在这座建筑物内，甚至包括银行和理发厅。因为达拉斯厅建立在小山坡上，SMU也被称为“山头”。

　　学校目前有注册学生11,000人，大约6,000人是本科学生。其中21.5%的本科生是少数族裔，一半以上的学生有宗教背景，只有25%的新本科生与为理公会教会有关。该校40%以上的学生有双学位甚至三学位，超过70%的本科生可以获得经济资助或奖学金。

　　南卫理公会大学的宿舍有各种不同的房间类型以及地点环境。所有的宿舍都有铺地毯的房间、床、衣柜、桌椅、网络连接以及无线网络、空调、洗衣房、自动饮料机、微波炉烤箱、宿舍管理员。类型有普通宿舍以及公寓式宿舍，公寓式宿舍有自己独立的卫生间及厨房。

　　南卫理公会大学提供学生多种多样的在校食物种类。从学校的食堂到赛百味、必胜客、星巴克、寿司店之类的餐厅，每家餐厅都提供高质量的食物以及服务。学校要求新生必须选择meal plan，有十几种可以选择。

　　校园活动

　　南卫理公会大学有超过120个学生组织，是由有兴趣、宗教、政治、文化等方面相同的学生所组成的。如果学生在其中找不到自己感兴趣的，也可以自己组织一个。组织包含了学术、艺术、文学、宗教、体育、政治等多个方面。南卫理公会大学的健身房提供全套的健身设备：如跑步机、踏步器、健身车、杠铃、哑铃、挂片式机器等。

　　南卫理公会大学位于美国德克萨斯州达拉斯。达拉斯是美国南部工业城市，拥有“美国的牛仔城”之称。位于得克萨斯州北部，面积862.5平方公里。

　　文化生活

　　达拉斯以文化活动著称，经常不断演出歌剧、芭蕾舞、音乐会和交响乐会。著名的达拉斯剧场中心是由著名建筑师富兰克・劳埃德・赖特所设计的，被称为演剧的圣堂。南卫理公会大学校园十分安全，有24小时徒步和车辆巡逻、深夜交通/护送服务、二十四小时紧急电话、步道灯/人行道、宿舍获得控制(钥匙、安全卡等等)。

　　达拉斯的风景美，不仅美在花草树木、山谷河川，而且美在人文历史。菲尔公园是达拉斯著名的景点之一，州会厅是这个公园的象征，是1963年为了纪念德州独立一百周年而建立的美丽的建筑物。公园内还有葱郁的植物园，历史悠久的德州历史博物馆，棉花馆，美术馆及水族馆。还有演剧的圣堂――达拉斯剧场中心以及肯尼迪总统纪念碑，都能体现达拉斯丰富的文化、历史内涵。

　　气候

　　达拉斯少雨、干燥、风大。夏天气温约在摄氏二十八度左右，虽然有些，但不黏湿：冬天气温平均在摄氏九度上下，偶有小雪。

　　交通

　　达拉斯是全美重要的航空中心，拥有2座商用机场，此外还有1座通用航空机场。城市内的交通也很方便，是铁路和公路枢纽，有8条铁路、2条横贯大陆的公路通过本市，市区与郊区之间高速公路交织成网。南卫理公会大学也安排了很多交通服务，比如免费的巴士，学生即使在晚上也保证能安全乘车到宿舍。机场/接机信息: 国内没有直飞达拉斯的飞机，可以从东京、芝加哥、洛杉矶等地转机。学校距离机场半个小时的车程。

　　周边企业

　　达拉斯的金融与保险业发达，大市区有第11联邦储备银行等约100家银行，为全国性的石油金融中心之一。学生可以很容易的在当地找到实习工作。

　　安全

　　南卫理公会大学有自己的警察部门，保证10000名学生以及2000名教职工的安全。南卫理公会大学警察部门的警官都是全武装、24小时巡逻、同一时间至少3个巡逻警察和一个调度警察，部门一共有32名警察。警察部门以及保安都会保证宿舍安全以及特殊活动的安全。
